Sex Expo 2017 Recap

 Sex has always been a bit of a taboo subject in the United States. Even in a world where people freely expose themselves on Instagram and Twitter, we still act like no one has it and anyone that talks about it freely is a pervert. Enter the Sex Expo held this past weekend in Brooklyn, New York. 

I've been to many an Exxxotica in my lifetime so I was familiar with the type of event this would be. What I did not expect is the massively long line waiting for me that Saturday morning waiting to get inside the event. What surprised me even more is that more than 70% of this line was filled with women, and the overall theme of this event will be that women like sex.

The space inside was smaller than a convention center but it seemed even smaller because it was packed with so many people. There were a number of booths with displays ranging from sex toys, sexual health and pleasing your partner in the bedroom. It was very informative for what was a group of attendees who were not shy at all of where they were. There was also a small center stage area where various exhibitions took place.

Throughout the event various workers from some of the many booths came to the main stage to show you what they were about. I used the word show instead of explain because it was much more of a visual show that had everything from fans giving their best orgasm impression to adult film star "Ashley Fires" riding a sybian on stage and putting on a show for Clips4sale, all hosted by the hilarious Reid Mehalko of ReidAboutSex.

As I mentioned before women were at the forefront of this expo and every show that happened on stage had a crowd full of women front row filming it on their phones. Some came with their significant others but many of them just came with a group of other female friends. If this is becoming a yearly event in Brooklyn, I hope it will help break down the perceptions we as a society have about sex. This was a fantastic weekend, and it was free as long as you registered for a ticket.

The event was much appreciated not just because it was in my area of Brooklyn, but also because I believed it opened a lot of peoples eyes to the freedom's of expression displayed in the adult industry that aren't much different from the lives of everyday people. Hoping for a return next year with a bigger crowd and even more open minded attendees.
