Jessie Reyez Releases "GateKeeper" A Short Film About Sexism in the Music Industry

There are plenty of young girls who dream about being a famous singer and perform on the national stage.  The road to success is not an easy one as it takes talent, hard work and dedication.  However, the music industry is not all bright lights, stars, money, and fame.  There is a dark side which is not told.  It is the sad reality for an up and coming female artist who had to deal with a power driven, chauvinist, scumbag whose only goal is to hold her career hostage in order to manipulate her to have have sex with him.  

Singer Jessie Reyez shares her true story and turns it into a short film titled, "Gatekeeper." It's a strong message to young women that they can make it in the music industry without succumbing to pressure or becoming a sexual assault statistic. The film is based on Jessie's own personal experience coming up in the industry. Five years ago, Jessie attends a party in which she meets up with a powerful industry player who tries to have sex with her in order to help her with her career. When Jessie informs this individual that she just wants him to hear her music, this infamous individual who is known as the "Gatekeeper" loses his temper when Jessie refuses his demands for sex.  Jessie's will was tested as she had thoughts about having sex with the "Gatekeeper" in order to see her dream come into fruition.  Jesse admits if it wasn't for the morals her parents instilled in her, she may have done it. This is a sad but true reality that happens in the entertainment world.
