J Cole - Neighbors

J Cole shares the controversial footage of the SWAT team raiding his North Carolina home last year in his new video, "Neighbors."

According to J Cole's producer, Elite, the song was inspired by a real life raid on his home they were working from in which they call the Sheltah. It is a creative environment for all the Dreamville artists and producers. The majority of the album were recorded in their studio basement which is located in a pretty wealthy neighborhood in North Carolina.  A neighbor who assumed a bunch of young African American men were dealing with illegal activities in the home contacted the authorities.

While J Cole and his team were in Austin, Texas, for SXSW; the SWAT team raided their home. Luckily, no one was at home.  However, their engineer Juro “Mez” Davis had just stepped out for lunch and when he returned he saw the SWAT team busting down the door.   The SWAT team went downstairs and all they saw was a studio.  At that point, they realize this was a total misunderstanding.  Watch the footage below.
