Interview With Edgar Sekloka



Ty Jones: What’s going on Edgar Sekloka?  For the hip hop fans that don’t know you, tell them who you are and where you’re from?

Edgar Sekloka: I’m a MC from France and Cameroon. I’m a rhymes and beats lover and if you don’t know, now you know…. 

Ty Jones: Let’s get to the joint that’s out “Encore” produced by Guts. How did that record came about?

Edgar Sekloka: Emergency and passion put the sound out! Guts sends me the instrumental and I recorded automatically.
 

Ty Jones: “Encore” is your first international single. What made you decide to reach out to an international audience? 

Edgar Sekloka: The word “Encore” is international, the Guts musical universe is international, French is international so when you think about that 5 seconds, in fact, it’s the International who came to me.


Ty Jones: You worked with producer Cool FD Beats, how did you link up with him?

Edgar Sekloka: By Leïla, my manager. She knew him from a friend and she talks about his good work. I meet him and he’s like me, a hip hop lover, so we match!
 

Ty Jones: Where do you see yourself in 10 years? 



Edgar Sekloka: With a pen and a microphone. Everywhere in the world, rapping, trying to give sugar to people.
 

Ty Jones: Where people can check your music at?

Edgar Sekloka: You have Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Soundlcoud. Tape Edgar Sekloka and add the social network.

Ty Jones: Did becoming a rap artist change your life?

Edgar Sekloka: Well, my life is a rap song. I’m looking for a producer to mainstream it. My life will change when I will find the guy.


Ty Jones: A collaboration track with you and two other artists produced by any artist. Name two artists and a producer you like to work with.

Edgar Sekloka: Yasiin Bey, Casey (French MC), DJ Premier.


Ty Jones: How is the hip hop scene in France?

Edgar Sekloka: You have a lot of entertainers, Independent artists, signed artists and talented artists.

Ty Jones: How did you get into hip hop music and are there any artists that influenced you into the game?


Edgar Sekloka: My sister, a French singer called Ange Fandoh (check out her work, it’s dope!) put me on an EPMD tape at the age of 8. All starts since this day for me.

Ty Jones: When working with another artist or with a producer, what do you look for in an artist?

Edgar Sekloka: I look for spontaneity fun and pleasure. Yeah, I look for sugarrrr !

Ty Jones: You also worked with artist Hekztor on the track “C’est Quoi Ton Probleme? Aka “What’s Your Problem?” How did you hooked up with Hekztor and what’s it like working with him on the track?

Edgar Sekloka: He’s a friend of mine and we have record a sound for his next project. I worked with a lot of artist in the #SUGATAPE03, you can check it on youtube. You have 9 clips with 9 different artists.

Ty Jones: Thanks for giving us the opportunity to interview. Do you have any shout outs and how can fans reach out to you?

Edgar Sekloka: Well, nah, nothing to add except, maybe to remind people that Hip Hop is poetry.
