Queensbridge is a neighborhood
whose housing projects have produced so many great emcees from the 80’s and
90’s. Artists such as Nas and Mobb Deep have put this area on the map and when
you get a chance to attend a show in Queensbridge Park, it’s always something
special.
In 2014, Summerstage brought us
Mobb Deep inside of the park, and this year we got a Large Professor and Marley
Marl show which also featured quite a number of special performances as well. After they warmed up the crowd for the first
hour playing a wide array of songs that they produced, they brought out some
special guest to start off the 2nd.
Craig G was first to hit the stage and he ran through some music and
ended by performing his verse off Juice Crew’s “The Symphony”. Next up with a set by Keith Murray who was
full of energy and started off by performing his verse off “I Shot Ya”, and
also singles such as “Get Lifted” and “The Most Beautifullest” before
eventually ending it by performing “Rapper’s Delight” inside a crowd of fans.
From there we got a set by Queensbridge legends, Tragedy Khadafi who performed
his verse off the Capone-N-Noreaga song “Calm Down” and their hit single
“T.O.N.Y.” You could definitely tell that Tragedy was happy to be back home.
Large Professor took some time out at this point to perform some Main
Source classics like “Looking at the Front Door” and “Fakin’ the Funk” along
with Neek the Exotic. There was also a
performance from Royal Flush earlier in the night running through his songs
“Iced Down Medallions” and “Worldwide”.
The Bravehearts also hit the stage as Wiz and Horse performed the song
“Oochie Wally” for all of the fans in attendance. The end of the night was
capped off featuring a cypher session featuring Craig G, Wiz, Large Professor
and Tragedy Khadafi.
I hope the summerstage show in Queensbridge park is a yearly thing and
maybe one day we will get a special appearance by Nas himself at one of these
events. New York is such a mecca for hip hop so it’s the perfect place for this
summer series of events to take place where we can bring out legends, newer
acts and fans for what always feels like one big gathering of family that takes
our mind off the hot days of summer.
