New York, NY – The Universal Hip Hop Museum (UHHM), in collaboration with The South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBRO), Dancing in the Streets and The Mott Haven Merchants Association, are having THE SOUTH BRONX IGNITES, a major block party on June 14th, from noon to 6:00 p.m. on Lincoln Avenue between 134rd and Bruckner Blvd. in the Bronx, New York.
This six-hour event will capture the sizzling vitality of Bronx musical culture and launch the “I’M IN” fundraising campaign for The UHHM. The goal of the “I'M IN” crowd funding campaign is to stimulate philanthropic interest in the museum and jump start funding support for the museum's capital development plan.
Beginning at 4:00 p.m., The UHHM, The Fifteen Dynasty and SoBRO will present the Living Legends of Hip Hop Show featuring Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force, Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Stick E and the Hoods, with a DJ finale by Grandwizzard Theodore. The show will be hosted by Uncle Ralph McDaniel’s of Video Music Box fame.
“The Bronx and the global community deserve a museum that respectfully preserves the rich culture and dynamic legacy of Hip Hop. The vision of our founding members is to have a cultural institution located in the Bronx, that achieves that goal”, states Rocky Bucano, president of the museum. “This block party will be the first in a series of fundraisers to be held throughout the year, that will help us to unveil phase one, a virtual museum by November 2014.
The mission of the Universal Hip Hop Museum (UHHM) is to honor the history of Hip-Hop Culture, its leaders and visionaries and to serve as a global institution that informs and encourages educational and cultural understanding of the art form throughout the world.
